West Vancouver's Traffic and Parking Bylaw bars placing any object, material, container, or structure on a highway, a term that covers public roads, boulevards, and lanes, unless a permit has been issued. In practice this means a construction bin or dumpster left on the street needs a highway use permit from the District before delivery, arranged either by you or by your hauler on your behalf. The District's Street Occupancy Permit applies whenever any portion of municipal property — boulevard, sidewalk, roadway, or public lane — is temporarily occupied, at $133 plus $2 per square metre per week (one-week minimum), with an insurance certificate naming the District as additional insured.

Given West Vancouver's often steep driveways and limited street parking, many haulers recommend confirming your driveway or side yard can fit the bin size you need before booking, since that sidesteps the permit process altogether. If the lot genuinely cannot accommodate it, budget extra lead time for permit approval rather than assuming next-day drop-off.

West Vancouver addresses route to the North Shore Recycling and Waste Centre at 30 Riverside Drive, over in North Vancouver — the nearest Metro Vancouver transfer station. Weekday hours run early, from 5:30 a.m. through 6 p.m.; weekends trim that back to 8 a.m.–6 p.m. on Saturdays and a shorter 9 a.m.–5 p.m. window on Sundays and statutory holidays. A load that turns up with paint, batteries, electronics, propane tanks, or other items on Metro Vancouver's banned-recyclables and hazardous-materials list draws at least an $80 surcharge under the region's disposal ban program. The free hazardous waste area at the North Shore facility is the right destination for all of it, not the rented dumpster.

Clean wood, yard trimmings, and unused new gypsum are charged at lower per-tonne rates than general garbage at the North Shore facility, so a hauler who sorts these out before disposal can bring down the total tipping bill on a larger West Vancouver renovation or teardown.
