If it must sit on a road, boulevard, or other City right-of-way, the City of Kelowna requires a Road Usage Permit under its Consolidated Traffic Bylaw. The permit must be applied for at least five working days before the work or placement begins, and is issued through the City's Public Works department. The bylaw schedule does not publish a set fee, so contact the city directly to confirm current permit costs and any traffic control requirements for your street. The Road Usage Permit's hoarding category — which covers a container placed on a road right of way — carries a $75 application fee plus $8 per square metre, and decisions come within five business days.

Glenmore Landfill, at 2710-2720 John Hindle Drive in Kelowna, is the municipal landfill serving the City of Kelowna and the wider Regional District of Central Okanagan. It is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., closed only on December 25, 26, and January 1. Loads must be secured and tarped before transport. Contact the city for the current tipping fee schedule, since rates vary by material type (construction and demolition debris, clean wood, concrete, and asphalt are all charged differently) and are subject to periodic increases. Demolition and construction waste is charged at $106 per tonne with a $12 minimum for loads under 250 kg, and gypsum board runs $200 per metric tonne.

Household hazardous waste, meaning anything corrosive, flammable, reactive, or poisonous, cannot go in curbside carts, construction site bins, or direct landfill drop-off anywhere in the Central Okanagan. This includes batteries, oil-based paints, pesticides, and electronics, which can catch fire or explode during collection or landfilling. These items should instead go to a dedicated depot such as Kelowna Recycling (Battery Doctors) on Windsor Road, which may apply its own fees and limitations.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan also operates transfer stations at Asquith Road, North Westside Road, and Traders Cove, which route material to Glenmore Landfill. Certain materials, such as clean dimensional lumber and asphalt shingles, are treated as mandatory recyclables with their own handling requirements, so it is worth sorting a job site's waste before it goes into a rental bin whenever possible.

Cost depends on bin size, rental duration, and disposal weight, so share your project details when requesting a quote. Expect quotes to reflect 5 percent GST plus 7 percent PST where applicable, on top of the hauler's base rate.
